A Lifetime of Innovation in Integrative Medical Care
Welcome. I’m Vincent Fowler—an advocate for integrative medicine, citizen scientist, healthcare educator, entrepreneur, founder, president and CEO, researcher, and innovator with more than five decades devoted to advancing observational clinical research, human nutrition, and evidence-informed integrative healthcare.
My journey began at the most personal level: working directly with families to help children overcome bedwetting through education, therapeutic conditioning, individualized nutrition, and ongoing support. Those early experiences sparked a lifelong pursuit of better answers and ultimately shaped my commitment to bridging the strengths of conventional medicine with innovative, integrative approaches to care.
Over the decades, I have founded and led pharmaceutical, research, and healthcare organizations and served in executive, advisory, consulting, and leadership roles. My work has included collaborations organizations located at the University of Western Ontario Research Park, Windsor Regional Hospital, the Canadian Children’s Centres, Family Health Service, and an appointment as Special Advisor to the Human Nutraceutical Research Unit at the University of Guelph. I have also contributed to research development, healthcare innovation, and funding initiatives, including successful research support through the National Research Council of Canada.
A Journey Shaped by Collaboration
Yet this story is not mine alone.
It has been shaped by decades of collaboration with dedicated scientists, researchers, clinicians, and colleagues around the world. Their insights, encouragement, and shared pursuit of knowledge helped inform and strengthen my research.
Throughout my clinical career, I have also had the privilege of working with and caring for thousands of patients globally. Their experiences challenged assumptions, deepened my understanding, and continually shaped the direction of my work.
I would like to offer particular recognition and my sincere appreciation to three colleagues whose support, counsel, and friendship have accompanied me through a significant part of this journey: Dennis Cutforth, who served for many years as my personal assistant and trusted colleague; David Malian, pharmacist, whose professional insight and support have been deeply valued; and Don Merritt, lawyer and long-standing colleague, whose counsel and perspective have contributed greatly over the years. Each, in his own way, has been part of this journey for decades, and I remain profoundly grateful for their loyalty, encouragement, and contributions.
Rather than attempt to name everyone who contributed along the way, I offer my sincere gratitude to all those who have shared their knowledge, generosity of spirit, professional expertise, and unwavering commitment. What follows is the story of that journey—from where it began to the discoveries, collaborations, relationships, and experiences that continue to shape my work today.

Where It Began
My career began with kitchen table conversations across Canada. Sitting with moms and dads, listening first, then helping families overcome bed-wetting through education, therapeutic conditioning, and gentle nutrition changes.
What grew from those conversations was a simple promise. “You won’t have to do this alone.”
- 2Late 1970s – early 1980s
Care Beyond the Home Visit
To keep that promise, I built a caring follow-up model combining home visits with remote check-ins, phone calls, and clear written notes. That blend of presence and consistency grew into the case management framework I still carry forward.
Families needed consistent support, not just one-time visits. So I built a structured follow-up model, home visits paired with remote check-ins, phone calls, and written reports. That relationship-based framework became the foundation for my career.
- 31990s – 2000s
Extending the Reach of the Clinic
The follow-up system matured into a structured Integrative TeleHealth Care System: medical oversight, patient education, nutritional guidance and documented long-term follow-up delivered remotely.
Thousands of patients were supported through this community-based model, proving that consistent, compassionate care did not require a waiting room.
- 41980s – 1990s
Discovering the Connections
Over more than 20 years of observational clinical research with thousands of patients, years of records, became a meaningful body of data. Working with physicians and nurses, I traced patterns across patient histories. In a subset of patients, when enuresis improved, so did conditions such as asthma, attention-related symptoms, and other chronic complaints, suggesting broader physiological connections. This insight set the foundation for the next phase of my work.
- 52000
The Cutler Research Consortium
Recognizing that these early discoveries required further investigation and stronger scientific evidence, in 2000 I funded the establishment of three not-for-profit organizations: Cutler Research Group, Cutler Pharmaceutical, and Cutler Clinics. Together, they operated as the Cutler Research Consortium, creating a collaborative environment designed to encourage innovation and investigate whether the therapeutic principles I had first developed in the treatment of enuresis might also have broader applications in complex chronic disease.
My research focus then expanded to the development and evaluation of what would become The Fowler Protocol™ for fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
At this stage, my role evolved from that of an independent observer to that of a convener and research strategist, bringing together the multidisciplinary expertise needed to investigate, refine, and test what decades of patient data had begun to suggest.
- 62002 – 2003
Research and Publication
Clinicians reviewed fibromyalgia assessments while researchers analyzed the resulting data set, refining diagnostic method and The Fowler Protocol™
The work produced two publications and, with them, a scientific footing that carried the research forward.
- 7The turning point
From Fibromyalgia to Metabolic Health
While managing patients with fibromyalgia, I noticed an unanticipated trend. Those with concurrent type2 diabetes or prediabetes began showing objective metabolic improvements, glucose trends, and related clinical indicators. As I carefully reviewed these observations, it prompted me to deliberately shift my focus toward type 2 diabetes and ask a central question: Could this approach contribute not only to improvement but possibly to prevention and, in some cases, even reversal?
- 8Today
The Fowler Protocol™ and the Next Chapter
Today the work belongs to a team: physicians leading clinical care, researchers analyzing outcomes, certified health advisors and nutrition professionals educating patients, and telehealth carrying it all beyond the clinic walls.
I remain the originator and strategist, but the system is the point. The kitchen table became The Fowler Protocol™ — now expanding through a national observational clinical research initiative.

Continue the story
"Based on my observational clinical research and experience, The Fowler Protocol™ has been observed to prevent and reverse type 2 diabetes in some patients. This work is now being expanded through a national observational clinical research initiative".
